Basic Playposit: Make Video Interactive for Students

Date: October 16, 2018

Time: 3:30-5:00

Place: Riverdale High School Library Lab

Descriptor:

Learn how to use Playposit to engage students, create self-paced lessons, and place accountability on students for their own learning. Playposit allows you to embed video from YouTube and many other sites or upload your own and then insert multiple types of questions into the video. Students can access the videos across any device, at their own pace, and you get the data. Perfect for teachers looking to develop blended and/or flipped lessons.

Bell Work:

  • Click HERE and complete the introductory "bulb"

    • How can you use Playposit with your students?

Task 1: Class Creation & Best Practice for Adding Students
  • Log in to Playposit using Office 365 credentials
  • Create a class and review your options for adding students to a class
    • Class Code – students sign in and search for class through a code
    • Class URL – students sign in and are added to the class
    • Easiest way is to share a video and enable auto-enroll Learners to this class
      • Must Have a Class Created and share from within that class
      • When students sign in they are enrolled in your class
      • Future videos can just be assigned to the class

Task 2: Exploring Pre-made Bulbs & Feedback
  • Explore the pre-made bulbs and copy one to your class
    • Bulbs in My Community are created by members of your school
    • Copied bulbs can be edited
  • View the feedback from the playposit demo bulb you completed at the start
    • My Bulbs click on the 3 dots and choose Monitor
    • Click on your class and then the chart icon located next to each bulb
    • Monitor – shows feedback for the bulbs completed in your class
    • Explore the data from a completed bulb

Task 3: Bulb Creation
  • Find a video from Youtube and copy the link
  • Create a bulb in playposit and see where to paste that link
    • You can also upload your own video content
    • PlayPosit Chrome Extension lets you pull video directly from many sources and even create video directly in PlayPosit (optional – will be covered in Advanced session in detail)
  • Examine the process of adding questions to a video
    • Add at least 3 different types of questions

Task 4: Explore Bulb Settings & Sharing
  • Explore bulb settings – 3 dots in upper right-hand corner
    • Allow viewers to rewind during questions?
    • Retake the activity?
  • Discuss Share and Assign for activities
    • Once students are in a class you can share the bulb with them through a link
    • You can also just assign the bulb and they will see it when they log in
    • What does the student see when they log in?
