There is a classroom set of textbooks for each class that must remain in class with the exception of Nutrition Across the Lifespan which is online.
****All students must pass the safety test with 100% and get the Parent Authorization and Acknowledgement form signed and returned before using kitchen equipment. (See attached form)

INDUSTRY CERTIFICATION
Students in Introduction to Human Studies will be taking the online course and assessment. They have 3 chances to pass, and the certification is valid for 3 years. Having an industry certification out of high school is very valuable! It is great for your resume but also you could get distinguished graduate your senior year if you also have a 3.0 GPA. Even if you earn the Food Handler your freshman year you will still get distinguished graduate your senior year if you meet the other criteria. DUAL ENROLLMENT (DE)
You can sign up for dual enrollment through the counseling office in the spring semester of the year before (This will prob be in March. The instructor from MTSU will come speak to my students. But they have to register through the Riverdale counseling office). Juniors or Seniors but you will need to have your ACT taken before signing up. This is an online course you will complete in the fall or Spring semester through MTSU. The class follows a 15-week college semester schedule, which typically begins in late August with the final exam given the first week of December for the fall course. The spring course will start in January. When completed you will have 3 college credit hours for NFS 2220 Nutrition for the Health Sciences. Also, you could earn 105 points for your high school GPA as well. You will work on your online class during Mrs. Louden's Nutrition Science & Diet Therapy class period. DUAL CREDIT (DC)
Mrs. Louden's Nutrition Across the LifeSpan is a Dual Credit course. You can earn 104 points for high school and you can also take the DC test through MTSU for $60. If you pass the Dual Credit Challenge Exam you will earn 3 hours of college credit for NFS 1240 Principles of Nutrition posted at MTSU. A passing score is 70% of the 100 questions answered correctly. Students interested in receiving 3 credit hours of college credit after completing Nutrition Across the Lifespan should complete a Request for Permission for Dual Credit form and give to their classroom teacher All forms and fees must be received at MTSU by April 15 so students can take the exam between May 1 and May 15.
