Freshman Honor/Mid-State Honor Choir Audition Information - 2023-24

Audition Dates -  High School 
 
These are tiered, which means you must attend each to qualify for the next, based on your audition results (i.e. if you qualify for Allstate, you must participate in both the All-County and the Mid-State event in order to qualify to participate in the All-State event. Be sure to put all of these dates on your calendar so that don't end up with a conflict.

Carnegie Hall/National Honor Choir Event:

(requires nomination by Director - see below)
Music must be learned prior to the event.

Criteria for Carnegie/National Honor Choir Nominations

 

Unlike Mid-State/Allstate auditions, which are initiated by the student by auditioning, the Carnegie Hall/National Honor Choir experience begins with a nomination from their Director. Knowing the expectations and demands of this experience, Mrs. Williams’ basic guidelines for giving nominations are:

  • Make Allstate Honor Choir
  • Make Mid-State/Freshman Honor Choir with other outstanding criteria
  • Outstanding Student based on the following “other” criteria:
    • Vocal Maturity - student has experience with the type of music that will be presented
    • Disciplined - student has demonstrated discipline in their ability to learn music on their own (required for this)
    • Behavior - maturity is a MUST! There are high behavior expectations at this event, and student must have already demonstrated a maturity that satisfies those expectations - examples:
      • Follows directions promptly
      • Keeps phone put away
      • Respectful always
      • Attendance - students are committed and on time
      • NO MISSED PERFORMANCES (unexcused)
      • No ISS or OSS (handled case-by-case, but if behavior is a problem at Riverdale, you will not be eligible for any honor choir)
    • Passion - students are fully committed to the choral experience

**Note - you must learn the SAME part for both selections. Choose the part that is best for you.
